This is when most people visit Skardu, and for good reason. Roads are fully open, weather is stable, and the valley is at its greenest.

Best for: first-time visitors, families, trekking, lake trips (Shangrila, Upper Kachura, Satpara)

Weather: warm days (20–30°C), lovely cool nights - pack layers

Roads: Karakoram Highway and onward routes to Shigar are all open. Deosai and Hushe valleys remain closed till around June

Crowds: highest of the year, especially July–August - book accommodation and jeep transport in advance

Heads up: Deosai Plains only opens around late May/June once snow clears, so if that's on your list, plan for peak summer

If you want fewer crowds and don't mind cooler weather, shoulder season is genuinely underrated.

Best for: photographers, couples, travelers who prefer calm over crowds

Weather: cool, crisp - April brings blossoms in the orchards around Skardu and Shigar; October brings golden autumn foliage, one of the most photogenic times in the whole region

Roads: generally open but check conditions before heading to higher-altitude spots like Deosai, which may still be snowed in through April

Crowds: noticeably thinner, better rates, easier bookings

Winter Skardu is a completely different world - quiet, snow-covered, and increasingly popular with travelers chasing something different from the usual summer rush.

Best for: snow lovers, photographers, travelers wanting a slower, offbeat trip

Weather: cold, often sub-zero at night - proper winter gear is essential

Roads: some high-altitude routes close due to snowfall; always confirm road status before traveling

Crowds: minimal - you'll often have entire viewpoints to yourself

Heads up: flights from Islamabad can face weather delays more frequently in winter, so build flexibility into your plans, or travel via the Karakoram Highway if time allows

First time visiting, want it easy? Go June - August.

Want the best photos with fewer crowds? Go in April or October.

Want a totally different, quiet Skardu? Go December - February, prepared for the cold.
