One of the best things about staying with us is how much there is within easy reach - you don't need to spend your whole trip on long drives. Here's a local's rundown of what's genuinely worth your time nearby.

You don't even need to leave the property for this one. The Katpana Cold Desert is one of the highest cold deserts in the world, and we run guided experiences right here - ATV rides, buggy rides, horse riding, and a proper desert picnic with the dunes and mountains as your backdrop.

It's one of the most unique things you can do in Skardu - sand dunes surrounded by snow-capped peaks is not something you'll find many places on earth.

Tip: golden hour (an hour or so before sunset) is the best time for both the ride and the photos - the light on the dunes is incredible.

A calm, clear lake often overlooked in favor of its more famous neighbor, Shangrila. Great for a quieter afternoon, boat rides, and photos without the crowds.

Tip: go in the late afternoon when the light hits the water best.

Skardu's most iconic spot for a reason - the "Heaven on Earth" resort and lake are a short drive away and worth the visit even if you're not staying there. Good for photos, a relaxed walk, or a meal by the lake.

A short climb up gives you one of the best panoramic views of the Indus River and the town below. Historically significant and a great sunset spot if you time it right.

Tip: go about an hour before sunset — the light over the valley is worth the walk up.

A slightly longer drive but a favorite for its glacier-fed turquoise water framed by mountains. Popular for short boat rides and a good half-day trip.

For a completely different pace - walk through the local market for handicrafts, dry fruits (Skardu apricots and walnuts are genuinely excellent), and a feel for everyday local life.

If you have a spare day, Shigar is an easy detour - home to Shigar Fort (now a heritage hotel) and a quieter, more traditional slice of Baltistan.

Most of these spots can be covered in 2–3 days without rushing - and the desert experience is one you can do right from the property without any extra travel time.
